2341xxx is a late 1945 production WWII Colt, considering sn
2368781 was the very last manufactured. Note the Parko-lubrite
finish, which is smoother in texture than the more granular
appearing Parkerization (Type II phosphate finish) of earlier
pistols.
Observed features are typical for very late Colt M1911A1's
(ref.
Clawson): serrated slide release, serrated & ramped front
site, and 7-ribbed mainspring housing; large reinforcing rings on
grips; narrow, checkered hammer; stamped trigger; Gothic font
serial number. Note also the presence of Rockwell punch marks
on
the heat-treated regions of the slide, a process used to gauge
metal hardness.
This example was one of the last GHD-inspected pistols, just
prior to the appearance of the much rarer JSB variation.
