Early 1911 Government Model
1913 Production

Shown is a 1913 production 1911 Government Model. The pistol has the
early high polish finish with fire blue small components. Although
military 1911's ceased having this mirror finish in early 1912 at No.
2400, the Government Models continued this aesthetically pleasing but
delicate finish schema until C4500 in mid-1913.

The slide shows the uncircled rampant colt to the rear, but continues to
retain the Roman style lettering and 1911 last patent date. Sights are
the early tapered front and rounded rear types. Note the GOVERNMENT MODEL
logo on the right front area of the receiver. An S with serifs is found
in 3 places: top of receiver by disconnector hole, rear of slide, and
interestingly on the inner surface of the mainspring housing.

The barrel is the original early commercial 1911 type with high polish
finish and letter C stamped on rear hood as well as rear of the lugs.
The number 5 is also seen under the chamber ahead of the lugs. The top
of the chamber has the characteristic coarse longitudinal milling lines
unique to the early 1911 barrels.

Magazine is the proper "keyhole", two-tone lanyard loop type with fire
blue follower seen through approximately C3500.

Photograping pistols with this high polish finish can be technically
challenging. Special light setups are required in order to reduce
unwanted glare and enhance the contrast between the high polish mirror
finish and the fire blue components. For an interesting comparison,
see Left View II and Right View II where no special light setup was
utilized.
