A Humble Collection of Modern Classics
seeker of blue
WHAT PHOTO EQUIPMENT DO I USE?
A Nikon 3.2 megapixel capacity digital camera. Light source is natural
sunlight or a large fluorescent light box, positioned in front of the
camera and directed down at pistol. Whenever possible, I use a tripod
to hold the camera perfectly still. Any movement whatsoever can blur
the finest details, especially in extreme close-up views. Pistols with
highly reflective surfaces (e.g. the very early Colt M1911's with high
polish finish and fire blue components) require more advanced lighting
techniques.
Image editing (such as blurring of the serial number) accomplished via
the GIMP under FreeBSD.
But nothing beats the time proven technique of trial-and-error. "Take
a whole bunch of pics, then just pick out the ones that look good!"
