Remington Rand M1911A1 NO. 1011xxx
1943 Production
Presented is Remington Rand M1911A1 NO. 1011xxx with Du-Lite blue
finish and Type II (2nd rarest) slide variation. The Type II slide
appeared at about 935000 and is observed intermittently through 101500
(ref. Clawson). The Du-Lite blue over sandblasted surface is the same
finish as seen on the Union Switch & Signal pistols.
1011xxx could be considered a transition pistol of sorts in that it
has features of both early and late Remington Rands. The finish is
Du-Lite (early), yet the serial number has the NO. prefix (late).
The vast majority of early Du-Lite Remington Rands displayed the No.
prefix. In addition, the slide release is serrated (late) yet the
mainspring housing remains checkered (early). Finally, many of the
small components (slide release, trigger, hammer, thumb safety) are
Parkerized (late).
This example was probably one of the last pistols to have the Du-Lite
finish in face of the NO. prefix. The presence of Parkerized small
components can be explained by Remington Rand's migration to Parkerized
finishing during this production period (Parkerizing began intermittently
at about 995000, ref. Clawson).
