Colt M1911 Navy Contract 38xxx
1913 Production
38xxx was one of 1300 pistols shipped to U.S. Navy Yard at
Brooklyn, New York on July 25, 1913. The pistol itself was
subsequently issued to the USS Maine on Sept. 30, 1914.
Navy contract pistols carried the U.S. Navy slide marking
until March 1915, after which Navy-issued 1911's had the
U.S. Army slide mark (ref. Clawson). The "punch-and-saw cut"
magazine was issued through about serial number 40000 (ref.
Clawson).
